Web-search company releases new Latitude software
Google has often had far more up their sleeves than just savvy marketing and the weight of the popularity of their search engine. After giving us Gmail and Google Chrome, Google has reached out once more and launched their Latitude software.
Launched this past Wednesday, Latitude is a product that allows users to broadcast their current locations to friends and family via a mobile or wireless device. The software is supposed to update in real-time and a person’s location can be tracked on the web or from a handheld web-enabled device.
Latitude currently functions on Blackberry handsets, units that utilise Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 as well as Google’s own Android OS. This list of compatible devices is being expanded, as is the coverage for Latitude. It is currently functional in several countries, although South Africa has yet to be added to the list. It hosts a built-in privacy system to protect the users, allowing them to determine who will see what information.
