Modern Warfare 2 loses dedicated servers

Robert Bowling, community manager at Infinity ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will not have dedicated server support. Infinity Ward has opted to use a matchmaking service instead of dedicated servers.
The system will match you up with players of your own rank. This news is a concern for the competitive community gamers who feel that the lack of control and customisation of the servers will make the service more like console gaming.
Josh Pickler of planetmedalofhonour.com said "The server community is what's made us. It's what defined us," he said, going on to say that "IWNET is getting the PC community to turn into consoles. You're trying to re-write our history."
Whether IW will listen to the community’s cries is uncertain but online petitions are underway with many people claiming to have cancelled their pre-orders in protest to the matchmaking service.
