PC version of SFIV comes with something extra – more DRM

The upcoming Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition for the PC will be launching soon but there are going to be a few restrictions on the game, especially for players without an internet connection, according to the Capcom Unity blog. The game uses Games for Windows Live as its primary DRM but…

According to Capcom’s blog players will have limited functionality in SSF4: AE if you are not signing in to an online GFWL profile, so hopes of internet-less players creating an offline profile have been dashed right there. Some of the limitations include: “Obviously there’s no online play, access to replay channels or other online-centric features (and this is the part that keeps the online play secure from hackers or pirates). Additionally, you won’t be able to save any progress in challenges or settings, won’t have access to any DLC you’ve purchased and all local play will be restricted to 15 of the 39 characters.”

If the internet connection drops at any point then players will be able to finish their fight/activity but will be asked to sign in again at the nearest return to the game menu. This scheme is not quite as diabolical as Ubisoft’s old always-on DRM but it is right up there.
