Problems with the new Centrino CPU opens the door for AMD... maybe
AMD is set to announce its next generation of processors next month and may have been given a little leeway with their release. Intel has hit a few snags with the production of their Centrino 2 laptop system.
The release of the Intel chip is being pushed back from June to a partial release in July, with the full roll-out coming in August this year.
This is due to a range of factors which include problems with the chipsets pertaining to integrated graphics.
They believe that this can be corrected within a few days. There has also been mention of some licensing issues with the new product with the Federal Communications Commission and Industry Canada.
This delay, though only slight, can possibly give AMD a chance to make up for lagging sales and get well and truly back into the race. AMD was given hell last year over product delays and these delays on Intel’s part may be just what they need to recapture a section of the CPU market.
