South Africa is to get the iPhone (if they have stock again) but competition is climbing for the Apple handset.
It seems that a local service provider may be bringing the iPhone into the country at long last, possibly with the assistance of Orange, an overseas service provider. Until now, users needed to hack the iPhone to get it to function in South Africa, losing some of the features of the popular handset. With the move finally being made to ship the Apple product in, SA cell-junkies can rejoice at last. Recently the iPhone was out of stock almost everywhere so we may have to wait a little longer before it arrives on our shores.
Blackberry is joining the race with its impending release of Thunder, a touch-screen Blackberry that is due out at the end of the year. With another of their products, Bold, offering competition to the iPhone, prices could be pushed down as the two try to outdo each other.
