A few moments ago the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was initialised and the future of mankind has been altered forever.
While the primary start-up is just to make sure the entire facility works it is still a remarkable step for science. While the initial phase saw the LHC only using about a tenth of its full power, in little over a month the LHC will power up to its full operational power of 7 TeV.
The run up to the grand “turn on” day has been marred by death threats, protests and court cases all because of the fear that black holes might form and destroy the Earth.
The LHC is mankind’s greatest attempt in its mission to discover the fundamental system of the Universe, including the study of black holes, dark matter, supersymmetry, alternate dimensions, anti-particles, and the ever illusive Higgs boson (Higgs field).
So fret not, because if you are reading this then the micro black holes never got us and you will still have to deal with that home loan tomorrow morning.
