Telkom sparks a trend
It seems that Telkom’s usage caps are not such a big deal any more, Comcast – one of America’s largest Internet providers is capping its users.
This will provide Telkom with ammo against people who complain about their “draconian” usage caps. Comcast says that most users won’t reach the cap as the average user downloads on average 2GB every month.
One critic called Comcast’s latest actions “the end of the internet as we know it.” It seems South Africa has started a trend and we should not complain because the future of the internet is OUR present.
I am sure your blood boiled all through reading that piece, so here is the real news. Comcast has implemented a 250GB cap (compared to Telkom’s pathetic 3GB), which in the US is too small, however only 1% of Comcast users actually hit that limit.
250GB is the equivalent of 62,500 songs or 125 full length movie AVIs. In real life it’s actually the equivalent of 4 hours of HDTV a day. Comcast have already been caught by the FCC for improperly inhibiting BitTorrent users on their network.
