Physicist trash talk
It seems that trash talk is not confined to hip hop gangstas. Some of the most famous physicists are getting in on the act. Peter Higgs best known for this theoretical boson particle theory seems to be having words with Steven Hawking who is best known for being, well for being Steven Hawking.
The two academics are ROWing over the existence of the “God particle” and with the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) finally being operational, the chance of the mythical particle actually being proven or disproven increases by a considerable amount.
Hawking even bet Higgs $100 that the Higgs-boson particle aka the God particle doesn’t exist. Hawking believes that “partner” particles will appear and thereby completely upsetting the Standard Model.
Higgs retaliated by saying; "I don’t think the way he [Hawking] does it is good enough," he snapped, quoted in the Times [UK].“He puts together theories in particle physics with gravity ... in a way which no theoretical particle physicist would believe...” “From a particle physics, quantum theory point of view, you have to put a lot more than just gravity into the theory to have a consistent theory and I don’t think Stephen has done that. I am very doubtful about his calculations.”
