In an effort to secure market share in the search engine world, Microsoft have taken to paying users who use their product. This offer first began in May this year, with users being rewarded for finding and buying products online using a Live search with a percentage of the money spent paid back to them by Microsoft.
Microsoft have altered the time taken to get this reward, from two months to almost instantly with a PayPal account. It seems they are determined to entice more users onto their online search solution. However, according to some online traffic monitoring bodies, Microsoft has actually lost some of the market share since the incentive program was released earlier this year. Their numbers have dropped which Google’s figures have gone up and even beleaguered Yahoo has seen a small increase in the traffic through their search sites.
Google, when asked to comment, stated that they would not be paying people to use their online service.
