Search engine willing to cut retention time if others follow suit
Microsoft is willing to cut it’s search data retention time from 18 months down to 6 months but only if the other web search giants agree to do the same.
The search engines are under pressure to cut their data retention time down to six months by the European Union. The EU argues that there is no reason to keep search data for longer than six months.
The search data includes data that can be used to identify users. Google recently dropped its retention time from 18 down to 9 months.
