In a move that seems to be taking a swipe at Infinity Ward’s recent announcement that Modern Warfare 2 will be losing the ability to create online servers, a recent post on the Battlefield Blog has stated DICE’s position on dedicated servers on the upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
Taken verbatim from the post’s introduction, Gordon Van Dyke stated “A lot of buzz has been floating around the internet lately about dedicated servers and we wanted to make sure our all our players have the best understanding of how Battlefield will be played on the PC. Since Battlefield 1942 DICE has used dedicated servers for all platforms. This formula has worked well, and still works well, for us and for the gaming community. We have stayed true to this practice and will continue this tradition into the upcoming title Battlefield Bad Company 2.”
The rest of the post digs at Modern Warfare 2’s vocally debated decision to can dedicated servers in favour of matchmaking and included a full FAQ for those ‘concerned’ that Battlefield will go the same way as MW2. You can find the blog post here.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is expected to release in the first quarter next year, barring delays.
