Soon to appear in a Guinness Book near you
A short while ago, Mozilla and Firefox attempted to break the world record for the most downloads for a single application in a 24 hour period.
With participants in over twenty five countries joining in on the effort, the final total reached was 8 002 530 downloads, setting an official Guinness World Record.
There were some problems with servers overloading due to people checking if Firefox 3 was available but once they were fixed, the record attempt started.
The busiest that the download servers were had downloads running at a rate of 9000 a minute. The previous best for Mozilla, set for Firefox 2, of over 1.6 million was beaten within five hours of the record attempt starting.
Gimmick, publicity stunt or just a random fancy for the folks at Mozilla, the fact remains that the record has been set. Anyone who contributed to this will be justified in considering themselves a part of it.
