Intel makes Core its flagship
Intel released a cryptic press release yesterday but we managed to figure out what they were talking about.
The press release talks about a new processor range (read: Nehalem) that will carry the name Core i7. The new chip will feature Hyper Threading and will be able to handle 8 threads at once.
There will be an Extreme Edition that again will have a black logo. The Core name has now officially replaced Pentium as the designation for Intel’s flagship processor range.
“Initial products based on this microarchitecture are expected to be in production in the fourth quarter of this year.” This line intrigued us, last year it was rumoured that we could expect Nehalem based chips in the third quarter but sadly this has not happened.
Save up your Christmas money, because it’s going to be a blue and white Christmas.
