AGASA dissolved?
The South African gaming community is engulfed in a dispute between the largest organisations. Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) and the Amateur Gaming Association of South Africa (AGASA) are engaged in a war of words regarding the existence of AGASA.
The following quotes are taken from MSSA’s site
...the Amateur Gamers Association of South Africa (AGASA) has dissolved as per their minutes of their AGM dated 1 January 2009....AGASA affiliated to the MSSA in 2005.
From 2005 to 2008 AGASA was tasked with hosting the MSSA online leagues. It was only through such MSSA leagues (which many players erroneously used to call AGASA Leagues) that were used for national team selection in 2006 and 2007.
Of course the MSSA will always be grateful to the work that AGASA did on behalf of the MSSA.... The MSSA Leagues remain the only officially recognised Leagues in the country.
When Collin Webster was question by a local gaming site with regards to AGASA he stated,
Whatever is happening on www.agasa.co.za, the only legal entity that existed was a MSSA club, which has dissolved. There is no AGASA organisation according to the law of the country and these are the laws we all have to live by.
Johann Van Backström refuted that claim saying that AGASA was run by a legally registered entity. AGASA has a full league planned for 2009.
