Blamed on lack of demand
Intel has dropped the prices of many of its processors. Intel has blamed the price drop on the lack of demand caused by the global economic condition as well as AMD’s new Phenom II range. Intel has cut some of its products prices by nearly 50%.
The Core 2 Q9650 has dropped by 40% while the rest of the Core 2 Quad chips have dropped by 16 to 20 percent. The Pentium dual-core processors will drop by up to 24%, the Celeron mobile processors will drop by a staggering 48%. The Xeon server chips are reduced by as much as 40%.
The price cuts come in light of a 23% drop in Intel’s fourth quarter revenue for 2008. Intel has not released a forecast for the first quarter of 2009 due to lack of stability in the economy.
