Another update on the AMD versus Intel competition
AMD has launched their new Notebook chipset, known as the Puma chip. It is the Turion X2 Ultra chip, the newest generation of notebook processors which has a few interesting features.
It comprises two K8 cores and each core is dynamic, allowing the chip to set different power levels for each core. It also hosts an integrated north bridge and Hypertransport 3 and is optimised for DDR-3 800 memory.
This release is in response to Intel’s market dominance, where Intel’s Core 2 chips are outperforming AMD on most fronts but AMD’s multi-core Opteron series of server chips are a very wise choice for most these days in the server market.
With Intel also siding Nvidia and AMD owning ATi, the competition has increased on more than one front with the latest releases of GPU units being thrown into the fray. Both companies are promising something special on all fronts in the near future.
