Along with case-mods, you can now customise you web address
A decision has been handed down from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) means that soon companies will not only to restricted to .com or .co.za extensions for their web addresses.
It will allow companies to make use of tags relevant to their business or the purpose of the web page. The decision, passed unanimously, will mean that the likes of Nike may end up with a .sports or .shoes extension or Coke using .cola for their website rather than .com.
Another decision was passed that will allow countries to use extensions in their native alphabet for extensions. Non-English characters will also find their way into web addresses as a result of this, though how one types in characters for an Arabic web page is beyond us.
This issue is still open with ICANN though and they will be ratifying the decisions at their next meeting in November this year.
