China has a new anti-monopoly law coming into effect soon.
It is most likely that this led the Shanghai Securities News publication to report that China will be instituting an investigation against Microsoft for alleged monopoly behaviour.
Microsoft commented from Singapore yesterday, stating that they too were unaware of any investigation and the check-up has also been denied by China’s State Intellectual Properties Office.
Microsoft also stated that they would always co-operate in any way with the Chinese government regarding their business practises.
Microsoft has come under fire constantly for antitrust issues in the last decade, in the United States, Europe and in Korea, to name a few.
In 2005, Microsoft was obliged to release a version of Windows XP without Windows Media Player and Messenger, as a result of a court decision.
