More on the ongoing competition between ATI and Nvidia
Due out in the second week of July this year, ATI is releasing what is being called a reply to Nvidia’s 9800GTX+ card. The first lot of stock 4850 units are already on shelves overseas but ATI has gone slightly nuts on their next wave of the card and have removed all overclocking restrictions on the card.
This will mean that board manufacturers will have more freedom with the units and the new cards should boast much higher clock speeds when they are released in a few weeks.
ATI have said that the new cards will likely have around 50MHz more on the core clock for the unit and the GDDR3 memory will have a bandwidth of between five and six GB/s. there are also cooling changes predicted for the ATI cards.
This may also end up applying to the 4870 range of Radeon cards which may also benefit from an overclocking makeover in the very near future.
