We’ve all seen it coming but we have a few dates for you before it leaves
Not that many folks reading this will buy branded PCs but for those who will get something from HP, Dell or Compaq in the future (the Incredible Connection bundles), time is running out for getting a machine with the XP operating system.
It is currently being phased out by Microsoft, far later than their original January deadline. This delay was due to their customer base being largely unhappy with the Vista OS.
It seems though that Microsoft have decided that the time has come for XP to make an exit from the scene and they have begun by removing it from branded machines. 26 June this year will be the final day that a user can get a PC loaded with XP from Dell.
After that it will be Vista all the way. The other branded companies will be following suit in very short order so time is running out.
It will still be possible to buy a PC with XP loaded on an assembled unit though. There is no final word yet on when XP will stop being supported as an OS for good.
