Making a move to prevent the folks who use their bandwidth from using their bandwidth
Virgin Media has announced that they will be taking steps to curb illegal downloads amongst its user base.
These steps will include sending thousands of letters out to their clients who have downloaded illegal material or have illegally shared media informing them that they are on a short reign regarding downloads.
This is being done in conjunction with the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) on behalf of the major UK record labels.
They are hoping to curb downloads of copyrighted material with this move. They also hope that other ISPs will be following suit once Virgin implements the move.
This is not the end of the story however since there are several legal technicalities which have yet to be ironed out. Part of this are the appointed mediators and also; what will be done in case where a subscriber claims they have been a victim of Wi-Fi piggybacking.
