Square Enix’s recent acquisition of European publisher Eidos was completed at the end of April this year and as part of that process, the Asian company will be retiring Eidos as a publishing label. Eidos will now become part of Square Enix Group and their main European offices will likely become part of the tentatively named Square Enix Europe arm of the company.
Eidos had fallen on hard times just prior to being snapped up by Square Enix, despite having their hands on some of the most well-recognised brands in gaming. Current Eidos CEO Phil Rogers is set to take the reigns of SE’s new European branch.
The retirement of Eidos as a publisher will impact both European and American branches of Square Enix but Eidos will continue as a label in the development houses that worth for the newly acquired company. There have also been later layoffs confirmed as the companies are restructured.
